Eating on your own isn’t just abnormal in the world of food and drinking alone is a real deal if you're an American. The last thing you want to do is find yourself eating alone in public, especially when it's cold outside. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to help you and your friends cope while on your own. Here are some things to eat when you're on your own.

Ditch the fast food

You’re better off not eating fast food at all. You’ll gain weight and experience indigestion, which will only make your travel plans for the week planner harder to keep track of. Instead, try to eat meat or fish once a week, or even every day. If you’re really short on time, try going to the grocery store and grabbing some meatloaves instead. It’ll be night and day, and you’ll be well on your way to staving off hunger by the time you’re done shopping.

Don’t walk it out

It’s been said that walking is like an exercise in space and time. It’s true, because if you’re walking for too long it’s going to be difficult to maintain your energy and focus. It’s also going to be difficult for you to blend in with the other people in the street because there will be no one else to talk to. Instead, take the time for 5 minutes every day to walk around your neighborhood and take in the atmosphere. If you’re running from work or on your way to work, try walking around your neighborhood and seeing what else you can see first. If you’re looking for a different kind of exercise, try riding a bike.

Walk it out but don’t get lost

This one applies to both long walks and runs. If you’re running and you’re not sure where you’re going, take a deep breath, take your shoes off, and walk in the opposite direction. If you’re running, find a place that’s safe and let go of the running breath. You don’t have to do this in a rush, but take your time. If you’re walking and you don’t know where to start, look in the opposite direction to the one you were running from. This will help you maintain your balance and help your body keep from developing a sweat lodge near your heart.

Fight for space

If you’re on your own, you should definitely make an effort to make space for your drinks, appetizers, and snacks. This should include a table or two at the very least. If you can’t take a seat in a restaurant, you can always order takeout and take your food to go. This is the easiest and most direct way to get yourself some privacy. You don’t have to take anything else with you, but make space for your meal, if possible. This will not only help you feel better, it’ll also help your friends feel at ease when they’re on their own.

Find a quiet table

It’s not every day that you’re provided with a quiet table to yourself. If you have to choose between walking or sitting at a crowded restaurant, you may have to settle for ordering takeout. This is simply because the food is too much to handle in one place. You can always make an excuse and take your food to go when you’re finished, but make sure to take your space back after you order.

Eat in person — even if you have to eat on the go

If you’re on the move and you don’t have room for dessert or dessert dishes, there is always the option of ordering takeout. This will help you get your food to the table quickly and take away some of the stress of taking a waiting table. It’s also the quickest way to get yourself some fresh air when you’re not feeling well. If you have to choose between walking or eating in person, eat in person. It’ll be much easier to blend in with the rest of the crowd if you’re not on display and competing for their attention.

Find a place that’s closed at night

The best thing to do when you’re on your own is to find a quiet place to eat. If you’re in a building that’s closed at night, it’s an easy way to pick up some much-needed energy for the day. This is especially important if you’re cold or hungry. You can always call a friend and ask them to cook you something special. This is another way to help yourself feel more at home when you’re on your own.

Get an umbrella or blanket in case the sun starts coming out

It’s been said that best friends are made of cards, and these are just some of the cards that you and your friends will be playing during your few hours of solace. Generosity is a trait that’s easy to miss when you’re on the move, but it’s a really nice skill to get your friend on. Whether it’s helping out a friend in need, or simply giving them your enchilada recipe, you’re going to be making lifelong friends with this. These are also great when you’re in a rush, as they’ll be easy to grab before your burst of inspiration sends you running in the direction of your next destination.

Wrap up warm and dry before bed

It’s impossible to get comfortable in your own bed, so the only solution is to cuddle up with a friend or two while you wait for the sun to set. This is the ultimate way to help yourself feel more relaxed, and it’s also going to help your friend feel better in their own little way, too. It’s no secret that chilling out with your best friend is one of the best feelings ever. Get them comfortable, open up your ears and have a listen to some soundtracks while you wait for the sun to go down. You’re going to feel so much better when it comes back out on the terrace or in the backyard. Simply put, cuddling up with your best friend is going to make you feel so much better.

A little wine for the party

As much as you’d love to have a small glass of wine with dinner every week, you can’t. You’re either going to be too busy having to finish your to-do’s or you’re going to be wanting to eat and drink a lot. If you’ve been on the receiving end of a few loud or aggressive drinks this week, try taking a little gummy or low-alcohol grapefruit drink before you go to bed. It’ll help your friend feel a little less out-of-control and you’ll both be better for it.

Something to drink when you're done

If you're going to a party, you want to feel comfortable in your own space. In order to enjoy yourself, you need to feel like you're on your own. That's why it's important to drink alcohol when you're done. You may not be able to drink to excess, but having someplace to go to relax and unwind is a good place to start. If you can't drink at home, find a place that's open and have a quiet place to eat. It'll help you feel more at ease when you have company over.
